Lakes and Rivers in the Town of Florence
The Town of Florence and Spread Eagle, nestled in the scenic Northeast Wisconsin, boast an abundance of stunning lakes and rivers. However, to preserve the natural beauty and ecological health of these bodies of water, this region has implemented additional laws and regulations for their protection. In addition to the requirements set by the State of Wisconsin, the Department of Natural Resources, and Florence County, the town has adopted its own measures to ensure the proper maintenance and preservation of these natural resources. This dedication to environmental consciousness solidifies Florence and Spread Eagle as a leader in responsible and sustainable living.
Slow-No-Wake Restriction on the Spread Eagle Chain
Under the regulations of ss 30.66(3)(ag)1, the Town of Florence has implemented a sole ordinance specifying an exemption on the Spread Eagle Chain of Lakes to the no-wake speeds within the channels connecting the lakes. This ordinance serves to provide an exception to the usual speed restrictions and is strictly applicable within this specific area.
The purpose of this ordinance is to ensure the safety and protection of all individuals and the beautiful ecosystem of the Spread Eagle Chain of Lakes. It is important to adhere to these regulations in order to maintain the health of the lakes and surrounding areas.
To obtain the complete information on this ordinance and a visual representation of the designated areas, please access the downloadable files provided below. We urge all members of the community and visitors to comply with this exemption and to operate their vessels with caution in order to preserve the beauty and serenity of the Spread Eagle Chain of Lakes.
Thank you for your cooperation and we hope that by following this ordinance, we can all enjoy a safer and more enjoyable experience on the waters of the Spread Eagle Chain of Lakes. Let's work together to maintain the integrity of this exceptional natural resource.
Designating Frog Lake as a No-Wake Lake
Under Wisconsin Statute 30.635, the operation of motorboats at high speeds on lakes with public access and a size of 50 acres or less is strictly prohibited. Frog Lake falls under this classification, being less than 50 acres in size and accessible to the public. In light of this, the Town Board of Florence designated Frog Lake as a no-wake lake on May 22, 1980.
The purpose of this designation is to ensure the safety of all those who utilize the lake for recreational purposes, as well as to protect the delicate ecosystem of the lake. The importance of following this regulation cannot be emphasized enough, as it not only promotes a safe and enjoyable experience for all lake users, but also plays a vital role in preserving the natural beauty of Frog Lake.
