Winter Town Highway Information

Plowing Across Town Roads
As a property owner, it is important to be aware of your responsibilities when it comes to snow removal. Plowing snow across town roads is strictly prohibited due to the potential danger it creates for traffic and the safety hazards it poses for those who travel on these roads. This is especially crucial during the winter months when roads are more susceptible to hazardous conditions. It is your responsibility to ensure that proper snow removal is being carried out on your property, even if you have hired someone else to do the job. As the property owner, you hold the ultimate accountability for the safety of your property and those who access it. Help us keep your town roads and property safe, while also upholding your responsibility as a property owner. Together, we can create a safer and more secure environment for all who live and visit our town. According to Wisconsin Statute 346.94(5), it is prohibited for any individual to intentionally place or allow the placement of any material that is or may be harmful to vehicles onto a public highway. This includes, but is not limited to, a pile of snow. In line with this, Wisconsin Statute 346.95(3) outlines a strict penalty of $50 for each violation. Citations may be issued for each offense without any warnings being given. This serves as a reminder to all drivers and road users to be mindful of their actions and their potential impact on the safety of others on the road.
Let us all do our part in ensuring the safety and well-being of everyone on the road.
Other Plowing Regulations
As the winter season has arrived, we kindly remind you of the town's regulations regarding snow and parking. In order to ensure the safety and convenience of everyone, we strictly enforce a parking ban on town roads and streets between the hours of 2:00 a.m. and 7:00 a.m. It is prohibited to pile snow on or block the sidewalks or fire hydrants. Doing so not only causes inconvenience to pedestrians but may also create a challenge in an emergency situation if our fire department cannot efficiently access the fire hydrants. Vehicles found in violation of the parking ban may be towed away and will also receive a ticket. We understand that winter weather conditions can be unpredictable, but the enforcement of these regulations helps us to better maintain the safety and well-being of our community. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation. Let's work together to make this winter season a safe and comfortable one for all. Stay warm and stay safe.
Mailbox Replacement Policy
Snow plow operators for the town use a great deal of care when plowing our Town roads. They are responsible for maintaining the roads and ensuring safe travel during winter. Despite their best efforts in difficult conditions, damages to residents' mailboxes do occur from time to time. As a way of reconciling the issue, the town has implemented a policy to provide reimbursement or replacement for damaged mailboxes. If a mailbox was correctly installed and subsequently damaged by a town plow truck hitting it during snow removal operations, the town will cover the cost of replacement. It is important to note that this policy does not cover damages caused by flying snow from plow trucks or other vehicles.
To ensure effectiveness and accuracy, the town requires pictures of the damaged mailbox and confirmation from the Highway Foreman that the damage was indeed caused by the plow.
Therefore, it is necessary for property owners to notify the town within 24 hours of the incident. Reimbursement or replacement for the mailbox will not exceed $20 and for the 4"x4" post, it will not exceed $10. This reimbursement is only limited to the material cost of the damaged pieces and receipts must be submitted for verification. No reimbursement will be given for decorative mailboxes.
New mailboxes installed by the homeowner must be installed in accordance with the town and Postal Service standards. Detailed drawings and specifications are provided for reference, and in case of any queries, the town office can be contacted for assistance.
